Neurobiology and Treatment Considerations in Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder is associated with considerable morbidity, which necessitates a creative approach in order to address a very unique set of challenges. Functional recovery can often lag behind symptomatic and syndromal recovery. Recurrent Bipolar episodes may lead to progressive deterioration in functioning and the number of episodes may affect subsequent treatment response and prognosis. While mood stabilizers seem to “nudge” the “symphony” of genes linked to bipolar disorder in a direction that aligns more with the normal expression pattern; a holistic approach including mindfulness meditation, comprehensive nutrition and supplementation, along with state of the art neuromodulation therapies, is necessary for patients to experience a robust wellness.

Objectives:

Participants will understand:

1. Neurophysiology as it relates to Bipolar Disorder

2. Bipolar disorder and its associated challenges with regard to treatment management

3. The elegance and sophistication of Neuromodulation Technology and Mindfulness-based interventions.

4. How to design treatment regimens that facilitate not only symptom management but build resilience in thriving vital patients.
